Canceled: March 1st Board Game Meeting – Board Games for all to play
by GeorgiaBoardgamer on Feb.22, 2008, under board game events, boardgame meetups
Sorry folks. I will reschedule soon.
Our next Georgia Boardgames Association meeting will be Saturday, March 1st from 12:30 to about 4:30. It will be at the same location as before, The Atlanta Bread Company, near Town Center Mall in Kennesaw. The location is on Barrett Parkway, convenient to I-75 and 575. The website and map are available by clicking here.
One quick note. I know this may upset some folks, but I feel like I should say something. I hope no one is offended. Since we are meeting at a restaurant – for free – I think it would be good if everyone could buy something to eat or drink. Most people do and I understand that some people cannot, but try and do what you can. Even if you only buy a drink it would be good and make our group welcome. No one has ever complained at the business. I just thought it would be polite. Essentially, we are getting to play for four hours for only a few dollars or less. Your purchase doesn’t reserve us anything so please don’t think that either. It is merely to be polite and thankful to the business for allowing us to play there. Thank you for your understanding.
I will have board games, but you are welcome to bring your own. I can’t guarantee everyone will get to play their favorite boardgame, but there should be a good selection to choose from. I have my games posted on www.georgiaboardgames.com and bring most of them. The game selection changes periodically, so check back to see if your game is listed.
The Atlanta Bread Company has a great menu selection of sandwiches, salads, soups, and bakery goods. Coffee and soft drinks are also available. Prices are from about $1.59 – $6.50. You should plan on buying something to help the business – a small drink, if nothing else, is fine. No outside food or drink, please.
I hope you enjoy yourself, and RSVP if you can.
I look forward to meeting everyone. There is no cost to attend.
Last time we had a great time learning new games. At least they were new to me. So feel free to bring your own games, just be cognizant of the time it takes to play them. Since most games don’t take three to four hours to play, just about anything should be okay. This also means you don’t have to come in at exactly 12:30. Last meeting we ate lunch, played games, and played more games. Great fun.
I hope to see you there.

Just Got Arkadia for $17.50 at Barnes and Noble – Updated with Pictures of First Game
by GeorgiaBoardgamer on Feb.06, 2008, under board game collections, board game deals, board game pictures
They are having a board game sale of 50% off at Barnes and Noble. I picked up Arkadia and a few others. Not all games were on sale, but they had a good selection of them (for a B&N.)
Our first game of Arkadia:

Just Played First Game of Pirate’s Cove
by GeorgiaBoardgamer on Feb.05, 2008, under Boardgame Sessions, boardgame reviews
Me and one of my son’s just played Days of Wonder Pirate’s Cove through about six months (six rounds). Can’t go much into it now, but I can see a lot of potential here. The combat is simple, but the method of choosing makes the game interesting. Again, I’ll have to get into it in an upcoming review. I’m interested if any of you have played this board game and what you think.
Bought Mille Bornes for $1.00 Last Night at Barnes and Noble
by GeorgiaBoardgamer on Feb.03, 2008, under board game deals
I had just bought Midway Treasures I for the Playstation 2, so I could play good ol’ video game retro and decided to walk over and see if there was a real board game sale going on. There were no signs indicating a sale, so I was disappointed; nevertheless, I saw Mille Bornes and wanted to get that old childhood favorite, even though it was $11.95 (not a particuarly bad price in itself.) When it rang up it was $1.06. That six cents was the tax! I couldn’t believe it. I almost bought several copies, but decided someone else would want some old card game goodness and left it. I felt blessed.
I spot checked the board game Ingenious while I was there, but it was not on sale, still going for $29.95. They had Arkadia, but I was in a hurry. I’ll have to check it out in a few days.
What board game would you like to learn?
by GeorgiaBoardgamer on Feb.01, 2008, under board game podcast, boardgame articles, boardgame reviews
I’m never sure what board game to buy for our game days, so I thought I’d open it up for suggestions. Does anyone have a favorite they’d like to learn? Also wanted to drop a quick note that we are working on our podcast and that a review of Augsburg 1520 is in the works for the boardgame blog. I’ve got my pictures, but the review will take a while to write. I also need to play it some more to write an intelligent review.
The board game podcast format will be simple with an introduction, two game reviews, and an ending. I think that it will be about 15 – 20 minutes to start with, so it will fit it nicely when you have a shorter commute or only have a little bit of time to listen.
I have name for it, but that will have to wait until it is released. No promise on the date yet or how many shows we’ll commit to. Five sounds like a good first run, maybe more. I’d like to finalize membership in the Georgia Boardgames Association first and that also takes time to do. Any suggestions are welcome.
